HIV and H1N1
As the H1N1 influenza strain continues to to be covered in the media, many people are wondering about the links for people living with HIV. Below you will find a link to UNAIDS which gives you a quick overview and also connects you to the World Health Organization's documentation and website on the issue. People living with HIV should be careful - as we all should - to minimize exposure to the flu, including H1N1, by practicing basic precautions such as hand washing. This is particularly important if your immune system is weak and you are not currently on ARV. Click here for more information
UN Cares continues to evolve into its second year with expanded activities for HIV in our Workplace
Following the launch of UN Cares - The UN system-wide workplace programme on HIV - in May of 2008, UN Cares now has in place two full-time regional coordinators (East and Southern Africa and Asia and the Pacific) and one global coordinator, based in NY (hosted by UNFPA). UNICEF, UNDP and UNHCR have also given staff time to help support the remaining regions. Although funding has been tight, in part due to the global financial crisis, we continue to reach out to serve UN personnel worldwide. It remains our priority to meet the priority of the Secretary-General, BAN Ki-moon, "to make the UN a model of how the workplace should respond to HIV." Conversations for Change
Conversations for Change is a self-help tool designed by UN colleagues to help us in coping with stress and managing change in our ever evolving world and work environments. It is broken into six conversations, with the idea of either working through one chapter at a time (for example, one per week) or choosing the chapters that you think are useful to you, and includes techniques to build self- awareness, relieve and prevent stress, increase effectiveness in relationships and improve money management skills. Please note: The World Bank Group s course: MONEY MATTERS. Budgeting: Developing a Financial Road Map is complementary to the content of the third conversation on money mastery.

Each chapter is constructed as a conversation on a theme and includes interactive exercises; each conversation begins with a metaphorical story to get you thinking. Interspersed are experiences from your colleagues about their struggles and successes. The three over-arching topics of the course are: improving personal well-being, increasing effectiveness in our work lives and coping better with issues relating to HIV. Whether you work through this tool on your own, with another colleague (in person or virtually) or in a group, our hope is that it will help you find solutions for coping better with stress in our complex lives. We are also pleased to offer this tool in French and Spanish as well. Click here to download the PDF file, Conversations for Change (3.5MB).
